Skills for a Technological World

Through the continued generous support of the parish, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque students and teachers enjoy a technologically enhanced learning environment. Skills in computers, coding, robotics, and more await each student as they learn in a supportive, collaborative atmosphere.

The Innovation Lab provides the opportunity for students to extend the basic St. Margaret Mary Alacoque curriculum. The SMMA Innovation Lab is a combination of computer lab, studio, and makerspace that provides a place to create, collaborate, communicate, explore, experience, play, fail (First Attempt in Learning) and fail better, and most of all, dream. The Innovation Lab is under the direction of Dr. Debbie Fucoloro, SMMA’s full-time technology coordinator and instructional technology specialist.

Students in grades K-8 visit the Innovation Lab on a weekly basis with additional open lab time available to all students and teachers. SMMA’s Technology Program is closely aligned with the ISTE Standards for “learning, teaching and leading in the digital age.”

3D Printer

SMMA is the first school in the area to own a 3D printer. Students use the engineering process of design thinking to move from drawing and designing to actually watching their designs become a 3D reality.

Apple School

Apple products are used at all grade levels. The Innovation Lab is equipped with MacBook Pros for student use, while iPads are utilized in classrooms.

G Suite for Education

Google’s latest educational technology opens the door to new skills. Students learn coding and robotics through STEM & STEAM/STREAM education, using program such as Sphero, littleBits, and MakeyMakey.
